Details

Eligibility

Spouse or dependent child of a veteran rated permanently and totally disabled (P&T) from a service-connected disability; OR surviving spouse/child of a veteran who died from a service-connected condition; OR surviving spouse/child of a veteran who was rated P&T (from an SC condition) at the time of death; OR surviving spouse/child of a service member who died in the line of duty (not due to misconduct). Dependents must NOT be eligible for TRICARE.

Spouse

Benefits end if spouse remarries before age 55. Remarriage on or after age 55 allows benefits to continue.

Children

Eligible until age 18, or up to age 23 if enrolled in school full-time.

Covers

Most medically necessary healthcare services including doctor visits, hospital care, mental health, prescriptions, durable medical equipment, and preventive care.

Cost sharing

Annual deductible of $50 per individual ($100 per family). After deductible, CHAMPVA covers 75% of allowable charges.

Catastrophic cap

$3,000/year per family.

How to apply

Submit VA Form 10-10d along with copies of the veteran's VA rating letter (showing P&T), marriage certificate, and children's birth certificates to the CHAMPVA Center.
