About VetUnlock

Built by a veteran, for veterans

VetUnlock tracks every federal, state, and county benefit available to U.S. veterans — 873 programs across all 50 states and D.C., each one verified against an official source. Free, private, and built to stay that way.

Why I built this

VetUnlock was built by a Marine Corps veteran who worked as a service officer. During that time, one of the most common questions I heard was about state-level benefits — what was available, how to qualify, and where to apply. The information was always out there, but it was scattered across dozens of agencies and websites, and no single resource brought it all together.

I created VetUnlock to answer those questions. The goal is simple: help veterans and their families discover every benefit they have earned through their service, all in one place, for free.

This is a work in progress and maintained to the best of my abilities. If you find anything that is incorrect or outdated, please bring it to my attention by sending an email to contact@vetunlock.com.

How VetUnlock verifies data

Every one of the 873benefits on the site is content-audited against an official source — not scraped, not copied from a third-party listing. Each benefit detail page shows the exact source URL and the date it was last verified. The audit process:

  1. 1Primary source only. Eligibility, dollar amounts, and application links come directly from VA.gov, state veteran affairs offices, county agencies, and the U.S. Code (38 U.S.C., 10 U.S.C., 38 C.F.R.). No second-hand listings.
  2. 2Word-for-word verification. Every claim on every benefit page is checked against the cited source — dollar amounts, percentages, dates, and eligibility cutoffs. Drift gets corrected (e.g., when Ohio raised its homestead exemption from $52,300 to $58,000, our page updated).
  3. 3Audience tagged for accuracy. Each benefit is tagged with who actually receives it — veteran, spouse, survivor, dependent, active-duty, Guard, or reservist. So-called "veteran-as-gateway" benefits like Chapter 35 DEA, CHAMPVA, and state dependent scholarships are correctly tagged for the dependents who receive them, not the veteran who qualifies them.
  4. 4Source date stamped. Every benefit detail page shows the date that benefit was last verified against its official source. If the date is missing or stale, the page is suppressed from public listings until re-verified.
