About this benefit
Eligibility
Veterans with Disabled Veteran (DV) license plates, which require a 50%+ VA service-connected disability rating OR 40%+ with lower-extremity amputation (Texas Transportation Code Sec. 504.202).
What is waived
The qualifying veteran may register ONE vehicle for personal use without payment of any registration fee except the $3 license plate fee. 100% Permanent & Total veterans may extend the waiver to a SECOND personally owned vehicle. Additional vehicles can display DV plates but pay regular registration and local fees.
Not waived
Vehicle inspection fees are NOT waived.

Tell the county tax assessor-collector clerk you are claiming the disabled veteran fee waiver โ it is not applied automatically.

Visit your county tax assessor-collector office with your VA disability letter, DD-214, DV plates, and vehicle title/registration.
