About this benefit
Eligibility
VA-certified service-connected disability of 50% or more, OR 40%+ with amputation of a lower extremity (Texas Transportation Code Sec. 504.202).
Benefits
DV license plate ($3 first-set fee), waiver of most registration fees on one vehicle (100% Permanent & Total veterans may register two vehicles fee-free). Additional DV plates allowed on extra vehicles, but registration and local fees apply to those.
TxDOT toll exemption is included automatically when DV plates are displayed โ no separate enrollment needed. (Other state-issued plates also qualify for the TxDOT toll exemption: Medal of Honor, Purple Heart, Air Force Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, Legion of Valor.)
How to apply
Visit your county tax assessor-collector office using form VTR-615 with your VA disability letter showing the rating. First-set DV plates are issued for the $3 plate fee.
