About this benefit
Eligibility
Texas resident veteran with a service-connected disability of at least 60% rated by the VA, an honorable discharge, currently receiving U.S. government disability compensation, AND not required to register as a sex offender. All four conditions must be met.
Covers
Fees for original issuance and renewal of a non-commercial Texas driver license or state ID card. Commercial driver licenses (CDL) are EXCLUDED.
Note
A separate "DISABLED VETERAN" designation is available at 50%+ disability (or 40%+ with lower-extremity amputation) โ that is a designation, not a fee waiver.
How to apply
Visit any Texas DPS office in person with your VA disability letter and DD-214. The fee is waived after eligibility is verified.
