2026 VA Compensation Rates: Complete Guide

The 2026 VA disability compensation rates are here. See the updated monthly payments for every rating level, plus additional amounts for dependents.

2026 VA Disability Compensation Rates

Each year the VA adjusts disability compensation rates based on the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA). The 2026 rates reflect the latest adjustment and apply to all veterans receiving VA disability compensation.

How VA Compensation Works

VA disability compensation is a monthly tax-free payment made to veterans who have a service-connected disability. The amount depends on your combined disability rating and whether you have dependents. Ratings range from 0% to 100% in increments of 10%.

2026 Monthly Rates for Veterans Without Dependents

Here are the monthly compensation amounts for a single veteran with no dependents (effective December 1, 2025):

  • 0% - $0 (but service-connected status provides other benefits)
  • 10% - $180.42
  • 20% - $356.66
  • 30% - $552.47
  • 40% - $795.84
  • 50% - $1,132.90
  • 60% - $1,435.02
  • 70% - $1,808.45

  • 100% - $3,938.58

These amounts are tax-free at the federal level. Most states also exempt VA disability compensation from state income tax.

Additional Compensation for Dependents

Starting at the 30% rating level, the VA adds money for each qualifying dependent. The additional amounts vary by rating level and dependent type:

With spouse (total monthly amounts at selected ratings): - 30% rating: $617.47 - 50% rating: $1,241.90 - 70% rating: $1,961.45 - 100% rating: $4,158.17

With spouse + 1 child (total monthly amounts): - 30% rating: $666.47 - 50% rating: $1,322.90 - 70% rating: $2,074.45 - 100% rating: $4,318.99

With 1 child only, no spouse (total monthly amounts): - 30% rating: $596.47 - 50% rating: $1,205.90 - 70% rating: $1,910.45 - 100% rating: $4,085.43

Veterans with a spouse and children can see significantly higher total monthly payments. A 100% rated veteran with a spouse and one child receives $4,318.99 per month.

Aid and Attendance and Housebound Rates

Veterans rated at 100% who need help with daily activities or are housebound may qualify for Special Monthly Compensation. Contact the VA for current SMC rates as they vary based on individual circumstances.

How to Verify Your Rate

You can verify your exact compensation amount by logging into VA.gov and checking your payment history. If you believe your rating should be higher, or if your conditions have worsened, you may be eligible for an increase.
