About this benefit
Eligibility
Honorably discharged veteran (or medical discharge with honorable record).
Two tiers
- 10% scoring bonus: veterans who served during a period of war or armed conflict and do NOT receive military retirement.
- 5% scoring bonus: veterans who did not serve during war/armed conflict, OR who receive military retirement.
Surviving spouses or registered domestic partners of veterans may also qualify.
How it works
When competitive examinations are used, a percentage is added to the veteran's passing score. When no exam is used, eligible veterans must be referred to the hiring official as long as they meet position requirements.
