About this benefit
Eligibility
Honorably discharged veteran, or wife/widow/widower of a veteran, when the estate or immediate family lacks funds to cover expenses. Veteran must have been a U.S. citizen and SD resident for one year before military service or before death. Application must be submitted by a county/tribal VSO within one year of burial.
