Details
Eligibility
Currently active duty, reserves, National Guard, or discharged with an honorable or general discharge; legal U.S. citizen/resident living in Harris County (felony program extends to contiguous counties); eligible for VA services; with a mental health disorder and/or substance abuse issue affecting the case. Felony cases exclude 3G offenses other than aggravated assault; misdemeanor cases require District Attorney approval and the criminal behavior must be service connected (as determined by VA).
Program
Judicially monitored treatment in direct connection with the Veterans Administration, with intensive supervision through HCCSCD.
How to access
Referrals come through the criminal justice system; felony referrals must be staffed with Veterans Court staff before recommendation, and misdemeanor cases are staffed with the HCCSCD Veterans Court Supervisor.
