You must have an honorable discharge from military service and an existing Rhode Island credential. Acceptable documentation includes a DD 214 (DD Form 214), DD 2, or other forms showing an honorable discharge; the documentation must state "honorable."

Important to know

A separate "Disabled Veteran" license is available for veterans with a 100% service-related disability. This Disabled Veteran license does not include a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and requires Executive Certification by the Department of Veterans Affairs RI Regional Office (380 Westminster Street, Providence, RI). The holder is exempt from license costs for life (RIGL 31-6-8).
