Eligibility

Veteran who served on active duty (other than training) and was discharged under honorable conditions. Must have been a NC resident for at least 2 years immediately preceding application. Must be disabled by reason of age, disease, or other factor and require skilled nursing care. Non-veteran spouses, widows/widowers, and Gold Star Parents may also qualify (limited to 25% of beds).

Facilities

4 currently operating: Salisbury (99 beds), Black Mountain (100 beds), Kinston (100 beds), Kernersville (120 beds) -- 419 active beds total. Fayetteville (150 beds) is closed pending replacement due to significant repair needs and structural deficiencies; 85 residents were assisted in relocating to other State Veterans Homes or any facility of their choice.

Costs are offset by VA per diem payments and the veteran's income; typically significantly less expensive than private nursing care.

Always confirm current rates and rules with the North Carolina state agency before applying.
