Eligibility

Former member of U.S. Armed Forces whose active duty service (other than training) was terminated under honorable conditions. Reserve and National Guard members entitled to retired pay are also eligible. Qualified dependents include the spouse, widow, or widower; unmarried minor children (under 21, or under 23 if in approved education); and unmarried adult children who became permanently incapable of self-support due to a physical or mental disability before age 18.

Covers

No charge for the gravesite or necessary interment services for a qualified veteran. A burial fee applies for eligible spouses and family members. All burials use government-furnished headstones at no installation cost.

Facilities

4 state veterans cemeteries -- Western Carolina (Black Mountain), Coastal Carolina (Jacksonville), Sandhills (Spring Lake), and Eastern Carolina (Goldsboro).
