About this benefit

Eligibility

100% service-connected VA disability rating OR individually unemployable (IU) rating. One free plate per qualifying veteran. Veterans with less than 100% rating may qualify for a free "Partially Disabled Veteran" plate.

Free license plate and registration fee waiver for one vehicle. Standard NC registration is ~$38.75/year plus plate fees.

How to apply

Submit Form MVR-33A to NC DMV with a VA Disability Rating Letter dated within one year. Must be certified by NCDMVA.
