Combined VA rating of 100% OR Individual Unemployability (I.U.) paid at the 100% rate. The Disabled Veterans plate is free, with the license plate fee waived. Veterans with ratings below 100% may obtain a Partially Disabled Veteran plate (no additional cost above standard registration fees; personalization charges may apply).

How to apply
Submit Form MVR-33A to NC DMV along with a copy of your VA Rating Letter or Summary of Benefits letter showing combined rating. The VA letter must be dated within the past year and must display both the veteran's name and combined rating on the same page.
