About this benefit
Eligibility
New York resident veteran honorably discharged (or released under honorable conditions) from the U.S. Armed Forces or state militia. A service-connected disability rating is NOT required. Also covers Gold Star Parents, Spouses, and Children. Issued by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Covers
Free vehicle entry to most state-operated parks and DEC day-use areas, free boat launch access at numerous state facilities, free greens fees at state-operated golf courses, free swimming pool entrance, and DISCOUNTED (not free) camping and cabin rentals.
Not valid for
amenities run by concessionaires/private partners; some specific golf courses and marinas (e.g., Buffalo Harbor, Sampson, Seneca Lake, Coles Creek) are excluded.
How to apply
Submit a completed application along with DD-214 (or equivalent proof of honorable discharge) to the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
