"Veteran" Driver License Designation

Available to any veteran — defined as an individual who served on active duty in the armed forces of the United States, other than for training, and was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. Accepted discharge characterizations include honorable, general, and general under honorable conditions/discharge.

Adds a "veteran" designation to your Maryland driver's license or ID card, showing you are a U.S. veteran and possibly making you eligible for certain benefits. There is no cost to add the veteran designation at any time if you make no other changes; standard fees apply if you are also renewing or making other changes.

Make an appointment at any MVA branch through myMVA to add (or remove) the veteran designation when you renew, correct, or obtain a new license or ID. Bring an acceptable proof of veteran status, such as a DD-214 / Veteran's Medical Card, an Honorable Discharge Certificate (which includes a discharge that is less than honorable), a letter from the National Personnel Records Center, the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families Service Program, or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, a United States Uniformed Services Retiree Identification Card (DD Form 2), or a Veteran Health Identification Card. Veterans whose records predate the DD-214 (older/pre-1950 separations) may submit alternative documents such as WD AGO 53, WD AGO 55, WD AGO 53-55, NAVPERS 553, NAVMC 78PD, or NAVCG 553.
