About this benefit
Eligibility
Veteran who served one day of active duty (pre-9/7/1980 enlisted or pre-10/16/1981 officers; otherwise 2 consecutive years required) with discharge under honorable conditions. Reservists called to active duty, military retirees, and any VA service-connected veteran also qualify.
Covers
Free burial including military honors, committal service, government headstone/marker. In-ground casket, in-ground urn, or above-ground cremation options. Spouses/dependent children pay a nominal fee equal to the federal VA plot allowance at time of death.
