Eligibility
Kansas resident veteran entitled to VA compensation for a service-connected disability of at least 50% (or qualifying through specific conditions such as loss of limbs or visual impairment). Vehicle must be titled in Kansas in the veteran's name (or veteran listed as lessee). Two plate styles available (effective July 1, 2022): one with the international wheelchair emblem (for those meeting disabled citizen criteria) and one without.
Covers
No registration fee for one auto, motorcycle, or truck registered at 20,000 lbs. or less. Property tax on the vehicle is still owed. Additional plates may be issued for other vehicles but require standard registration fees.
How to apply
Complete Form TR-103 (requires signatures from the disabled veteran and a VA regional director; medical professional signature also required for the wheelchair-emblem version). Submit to your county treasurer's motor vehicle office with proof of valid insurance.
