About this benefit
Eligibility
Veterans with other-than-dishonorable discharge, their spouses, and unmarried children under 21 (or 23 if enrolled in approved education). Unmarried adult children who are disabled before age 21 also qualify.
Covers
Gravesite, grave marker, perpetual maintenance, and opening/closing of the grave -- all at no cost. Family must arrange and pay for mortuary services (transport of remains, casket). VA pays plot/interment allowance for eligible wartime/peacetime veterans. Columbarium niches available for cremated remains.
Locations
Seven state veterans cemeteries in Hilo, Hoolehua, Kailua-Kona, Kaneohe, Kaunakakai, Lanai City, and Lihue.
