Space-Available Travel
Eligible for Space-A military flights (100% P&T).
About this benefit
Eligibility
Must be rated 100% permanent and total (P&T). Dependents CAN accompany the veteran sponsor (per FY2021 NDAA expansion).
How it works
You can fly on military aircraft on a space-available basis. Travel is available within CONUS and direct flights between CONUS and Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa — no foreign-country travel allowed. Flights are free but not guaranteed — you fly only when there are empty seats.
How to sign up
Register at the passenger terminal of a military air base. You can sign up in person or online through some terminals. A DD Form 2765 (Tan ID card) is typically required. Priority is based on category — P&T veterans are Category 6.
Tips
Be flexible with dates and destinations. Popular routes fill up fast. Bring food and entertainment as flights can be long with no amenities.
