Annual Clothing Allowance
Annual payment if a prosthetic or orthopedic device damages clothing.
About this benefit
Eligibility
This benefit is NOT based on a disability rating threshold. You must use a prosthetic or orthopedic appliance (including a wheelchair) for a service-connected disability, AND the appliance tends to wear out or tear your clothing. OR you use medication prescribed for a service-connected skin condition that causes irreparable damage to your outer garments. Eligibility is determined by the use of a qualifying prosthetic device or prescribed medication that damages clothing.
Amount
$1,053.19/year (2026 rate, effective December 1, 2025). Multiple allowances possible if you have more than one qualifying condition.
How to apply
File VA Form 10-8678 at the Prosthetics Department of your local VA Medical Center. Must apply by August 1 each year for that year's allowance.
Important
Your VA doctor or prosthetics department must verify that your device or medication damages clothing.
