Eligibility

Child of a veteran who served during a specified conflict period (WWII through Afghanistan) and who died, has 40% or more service-connected disability, was classified as MIA, or was a POW as a result of that service. The veteran must currently be a NYS resident or have been a NYS resident at time of death. The child must be a US citizen or eligible noncitizen and a NYS legal resident with 12 continuous months of residency. Student must be pursuing an approved undergraduate degree at a NYS postsecondary institution, in good academic and financial standing, with a high school diploma, GED, or passing "Ability to Benefit" test.

Covers

Up to $450 per academic year, paid directly to the student. The recipient must complete the FAFSA and TAP application each year for continued payment.

Begin by completing the Children of Veterans' Award Web Supplement at hesc.ny.gov, submit required documentation (parent's veteran status, service-connected death/disability/MIA/POW documentation, student enrollment), then complete the FAFSA and the NYS TAP application.
