About this benefit
Eligibility
Child of a veteran whose parent died, has 40% or more service-connected disability, was classified as MIA, or was a POW as a result of service during specified war periods. The veteran must currently be or have been a NYS resident at time of death; the child must be a NYS legal resident with 12 continuous months residency. Student must be enrolled in undergraduate study at a New York State approved postsecondary institution.
Covers
$450 per academic year for up to four years of full-time undergraduate study (up to five years for a five-year program). Payment is made directly to the student.
How to apply
Apply through the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) at hesc.ny.gov. Submit proof of the parent's veteran status, service-connected death or 40%+ disability documentation, and the student's enrollment verification.
