Eligibility
Honorably discharged Kansas resident certified by the VA as having a 100% service-connected permanent disability OR deemed totally disabled or unemployable (TDIU/individual unemployability qualifies) with a permanent service-connected disability, per K.S.A. 79-3606h. Veteran must obtain a veteran exemption identification number from the Kansas Secretary of Revenue and will receive an exemption certificate in driver's-license-card form. Surviving spouse may continue the exemption until remarriage. Effective on and after July 1, 2026.

Does NOT apply to motor vehicles, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, electronic cigarettes, or consumable materials for e-cigarettes. At the current Kansas state sales tax rate of 6.5%, this could save up to approximately $1,560/year.
How to apply
Apply for the exemption identification number through the Kansas Secretary of Revenue once the exemption takes effect; coordinate with the Kansas Office of Veterans Services for documentation assistance.
