Eligibility
Honorably discharged veteran (or general discharge under honorable conditions) with a service-connected VA disability rating of 50% or greater (or age 65+). Must be a Kansas resident for the entire tax year. Household income must be $58,041 or less for 2025. Homestead appraised value must be $350,000 or less in the base year.
Covers
Refund equal to the difference between the base-year ad valorem property tax and the current-year property tax on the homestead. Unlike the K-40H Homestead program, K-40SVR has no fixed dollar cap -- the refund tracks the actual increase in taxes since the base year. A claimant may only claim one of the homestead refund programs (K-40H, K-40PT/SAFESR, or K-40SVR) per year -- the largest applicable refund is paid.
How to apply
File Form K-40SVR with the Kansas Department of Revenue between January 1 and April 15.
Always confirm current rates and rules with the Kansas state agency before applying.
