About this benefit
Eligibility
Honorably discharged veteran with 100% permanent and total service-connected disability. Must hold homestead in Florida.
Covers
Complete exemption from all property taxes on the homestead. Value varies widely by county and home value โ potentially thousands to tens of thousands of dollars per year.
Surviving spouse
Exemption carries over to the surviving spouse as long as they hold legal title, permanently reside on the homestead, and do not remarry. If the surviving spouse sells, they may transfer an exemption to a new primary residence in Florida โ capped at the dollar amount granted on the most recent ad valorem tax roll (NOT 120% of it; the 120% figure refers to Save Our Homes portability under Fla. Stat. 193.155, which is a separate program).
How to apply
County Property Appraiser's office by March 1 with VA letter confirming 100% P&T rating and DD-214.
