Eligibility
Must be a New Jersey resident veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. Honorable discharge required. Must own and occupy the property. Note: The wartime service requirement was eliminated effective 2020.
Deduction
$250 is deducted from your annual property tax bill. If property is jointly owned by two qualifying veterans, the deduction is $500.

How to apply
File with your municipal tax assessor. Provide DD-214 showing honorable discharge. Must apply by December 31 of the pretax year. Once approved, the deduction continues automatically each year.
