Eligibility
Must be a New Jersey resident veteran rated 100% totally and permanently disabled by the VA due to service-connected disability. Must own and occupy the property as your primary residence. Honorable discharge or release under honorable conditions required.
Exemption
100% of property taxes are exempt โ you pay no property taxes on your primary residence. This applies to all local property taxes including municipal, county, and school taxes.
Surviving spouse
The surviving spouse of a qualifying veteran may retain the full exemption as long as they remain unmarried, continue to own the property, and reside in it.
How to apply
File with your local municipal tax assessor. Provide your VA letter confirming 100% total and permanent disability, DD-214, and proof of property ownership and occupancy. Reapplication is not typically required once approved unless circumstances change.
