About this benefit

Eligibility

Rated by the VA as having a total and permanent service-connected disability, OR paid at the 100% disability rating due to Individual Unemployability (IU). Must be domiciled in DC; property must be principal residence. Must maintain at least 50% ownership of the property. Total household income cannot exceed the Senior/Disabled Tax Relief limit ($163,500 for TY 2026; adjusts annually).

Covers

Deducts up to $445,000 from the assessed value of the veteran's primary residence for property tax purposes.

Note

Properties receiving this deduction are NOT eligible for the standard Homestead, Senior Citizen/Disabled Tax Relief, or tax cap credit.
