Eligibility

100% service-connected disability rating from the VA (or paid at 100% rate). Montana resident; must own or be under contract to purchase home and live in it as primary residence at least 7 months/year. Income limits apply, updated annually for inflation.

Tax Year 2026 income thresholds: Single under $62,598; Married/Head of Household under $72,229; Unmarried Surviving Spouse under $54,573.

Reduces property tax rate by 50%, 70%, 80%, or 100% depending on marital status and federal adjusted gross income.

Unmarried surviving spouse of veteran who died on active duty, died from service-connected disability, or was rated 100% at time of death may also be eligible.

Must requalify yearly. Apply deadline: April 15 annually. File electronically or submit paper MDV Form to local field office.
