Details
Eligibility
100% permanent and total VA disability rating, or Individually Unemployable (IU) at 100% rate, or receiving VA pecuniary assistance for specially adapted housing. Honorable discharge required. Property must be owned and used as homestead.
Surviving spouse
Un-remarried surviving spouse may retain the exemption.
File Form 5107 with local assessor. Beginning with the 2026 tax year (per amended P.A. 161 of 2013), previously granted exemptions remain in effect without annual reapplication until rescinded or denied; veterans receiving the exemption in 2025 still had to refile for that year.
Always confirm current rates and rules with the Michigan state agency before applying.
