Eligibility

Iowa resident; honorably discharged veteran who served a minimum of 18 months active duty, OR served less than 18 months and was discharged due to a service-connected injury, OR a Reserve/National Guard member with 20+ years of service, OR a Reserve/Guard member who served 90+ days on federal active duty (not training). No disability rating required.

Exemption

Reduces taxable value by $4,000 (per Iowa Code 426A.11, as amended for assessment years beginning on or after January 1, 2023). Savings vary by local tax levy.

How to apply

File with your county Assessor's Office on or before July 1 using Form 54-146. Only needs to be filed once.
